TAMU Has First Woman President (Whoop!)

Elsa Murano appointed first female TAMU PresidentI am really proud to say that today the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents formally appointed Dr. Elsa Murano the 23rd president of Texas A&M University in College Station on Thursday. This is not a surprise, as Murano was the sole finalist for the position since December 2007.

This is a huge deal, as Murano is both the first Hispanic and woman to be named president of Texas A&M.

Texas A&M is a world class institution. As such, it is really important that we throw off ancient (and incorrect) perceptions about Aggie prejudices. Having a supremely qualified Hispanic woman at the helm is a huge step in that direction.

Murano is a trail blazer, having previously served as vice chancellor and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M. Before that, she was the first Hispanic American to serve as undersecretary for food safety for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Choosing qualified people to lead the University while respecting diversity is Good Bull.
